Thompson, 83, of Sheridan, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008, at his home. He was born Sept. 3, 1925, in Muskegon, the son of William and Elsie M. (Jeffrey) Thompson. Mr. Thompson was a longtime resident of the Sheridan area and was formerly of Palo. He retired from Belding Products and golfing was his passion during his retirement years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, a life member of VFW Post 5065 of Sheridan and a member of the Greenville American Legion. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He married Joan D. Dietrich on Nov. 15, 1947, in Hubbardston. He is survived by three daughters, Tamara and Gary Steere of Belding, Carla and Mike Durdle of Sheridan, Carma and Ken Petersen of Boddentown, Grand Cayman; six grandsons, Matt and Teresa Steere, Andy and Stephanie Steere, all of Golden, Colo., Scott and Marianne Durdle of Charleston, S.C., Chad and Angie Durdle of Gowen, Jeff Petersen of Sheridan, Chris Petersen of Grand Rapids; seven great-grandchildren, Alexandria, Zachary and Adrian Durdle of Charleston, S.C., Kyle, Madison and Emma Durdle of, Gowen, Nicholas Steere of Golden, Colo.; his golfing buddies, Lloyd Cardis of Sheridan, Bob Caderet of Stanton, Bob Brundage of Crystal; and many other friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan D. Thompson, on April 15, 2006; and an infant daughter who died at birth. In accordance with Mr. Thompson’s wishes, there will not be any visitation or funeral services, as cremation has already taken place. For those desiring to do so, the family has suggested memorial considerations to the Central Montcalm High School golf team.
