He was born in Ponnell, Vt., and when 21 years of age came west and first settled in Ionia for a few years, afterward removing to a farm in Easton township which he purchased and resided there until thirteen years ago, when he sold out and came to Belding. He had many friends in Ionia county, being a resident 58 years, always attended strictly to his own business, never aspired to office, and while living on the farm his counsel was much sought after by his neighbors. He leaves beside his wife, who is now confined to the house by sickness, two daughters – Mrs. A. l. Spencer and Mrs. E. C. Floyd. Funeral services were held at his late residence Sunday morning, sermon by Rev. C. I. Devo.
