Mary Thompson, age 76, of Muir passed away January 24, 2004 in Muskegon. She 
was born January 2, 1928 in L’Anse , Michigan the daughter of George and Helen 
(Eister) Penokie. 

She was a member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Ionia. She was very 
active for many years in Ionia County 4H and was a Avon Dealer for 35 years. 
Mary was very family oriented.

She is survived by her sons, Nathan and Becky Thompson of Rockford, Pieter and 
Joni Thompson of North Las Vegas, Nevada; daughters Christina and James Muxlow 
of Lapeer, Andrea and Robert Perri of Muskegon, Cynthia and Michael Harrington 
of Mt. Pleasant, Celeste and Louis Schafer of Lyons; brother Bernard and 
Virginia Penokie of L’anse; sisters, Kathryn Bush of St. Clair Shores, Joan 
and Raymond Simpson of Oak Park, IL and fifteen grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Guy in 2001; two grandchildren, 
Christopher Schafer in 1986 and Natalie Perri in 1995.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, at SS Peter & 
Paul Catholic Church in Ionia. The family will receive friends and relatives 
Wednesday 4:30 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Lake Funeral Home in Muir. Rosary 7:00 
P.M. at the funeral home.  Anyone wishing may make a memorial contribution to 
a charity of choice.
