November 9, 1950 Rites Held Friday For Former Resident Funeral service were held Friday afternoon at the First Presbyterian church of Hastings for Mrs.Mary Ellen Thompson, 60, wife of Hasting's Police Chief Harry Thompson. Mrs.Thompson passed away unexpectedly at Pennock Hospital Wednesday evening where she had been a patient for two weeks following surgery and had expected to be released to her home. Her mother, Mrs.Margaret Brooks had passed away a few hours earlier. She was a former resident of this vicinity residing about five miles southwest of town on the Barry-Ionia County line before her marriage. They had resided in Freeport before moving to Hastings thirty years ago. Surviving besides the husband are a son Harry Jr. of Hastings, two daughters Mrs.Lillian Taffee of Hastings and Mrs Agnes Hollister of Ann Arbor, three sisters, Mrs.Clara Fowley of Clarksville, Mrs.Gary Studt, and Mrs Glenn Torrey of Lake Odessa; five brothers, Fred and Dewey of Lake Odessa, John of Okemos, Frank of Williamston and Charles of Woodland. Burial in Freeport cemetery. Rev. Leason Sharpe of Hastings officiated.
