Rites Held for E.Thompson

Funeral services for Edward Thompson, former Sunfield postmaster, were held 
Monday, May 2 at the Mapes-Fisher Funeral  Home at Sunfield. Rev. John Morse of 
the Sunfield United Methodist Church. Rev. Gerald Gates of the Trinity United 
Methodist Church and Rev. Robert Luce of the  Altamont Christian Church of 
Altamont, Ill., officiated with burial in the Sunfield Cemetery, Masonic 
services were conducted by the Sunfield F.& AM Lodge.

He was born in Clay County, Ill., February 4, 1908, the son of Emory and Lizzie 
(Trapp) Thompson and had lived in Sunfield after his marriage to Evelyn Lucas in 
Auburn,Ind., until moving to Lake Odessa several years ago.

Mr. Thompson served as Sunfield postmaster for 24 1/2 years, was a member of the 
Sunfield United Methodist Church, a life member and past Mater of the Masonic 
Lodge, as a volunteer fireman for 36 years in Sunfield and a member of the 
National Association of Postmasters of the United States.

Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Mrs.Shirley Neff of Charlotte and 
Mrs.Jean Thomas of Grand Ledge; four sons, Vernon and Jerry of Grand Ledge, 
Larry of Eaton Rapids and David of Sunfield; five sisters,Mrs.Ruth Luse of 
Flora,Ill. Mrs.Frank Haight, Mrs.Dorothy Barnum and Mrs.Virginia Darby, all of 
Hastings and Mrs.Martha Wilcox of Alamo, Texas; two brothers, Walter of Battle 
Creek and Raymond of New York, 16 grandchildren one great-grandchild, nieces and 
nephews.
