Thompson, age 82, of Dimondale, formerly of Portland, passed away Sunday, May 30, 2004. He was born February 7, 1922 in Ravenna, the son of Clyde and Jennie (Young) Thompson. Marion retired in 1979 from Gregware Company as a sales representative. He was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and was a proud member of the Portland VFW Post #4090. He loved camping with his family, snowmobiling and hunting. Most of all, he loved to spend a quiet evening fishing on his pontoon boat with his wife Leta. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Leta; four children, Jerry (Marilyn) Thompson of Allentown, Pennsylvania, Nancy Thompson of Lansing, Eileen (Joe) Honsowitz of Eaton Rapids and Jim (Bobbie) Thompson of Portland; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; sister Nina Hipler of Grand Haven; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at noon on Thursday at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland. Interment in Portland Cemetery at 3 p.m. Military honors will be provided by the Portland VRW Post #4090. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Portland Conservation Club.
