Well-Known Ionia Township Farmer Taken by Death

Melvin E. Thornton, 58, a resident of Ionia county for a number of years, died
at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Louise Reutlester, 1178 Walker avenue, Grand
Rapids, Saturday.  Mr. Thornton had been ill for many weeks and had been in a
Grand Rapids hospital.

Mr. Thorton is survived by six children, Milo Thornton, Mrs. Louise Reutlester,
Mrs. Bertha Vincent, all residents of Grand Rapids; Oney Thornton, who lives at
home; Ora Thornton, of Ionia and Lester Thornton, who lives on a farm north of
Ionia.

The funeral will be held from the residence in Ionia township Tuesday afternoon
at 2 o’clock.  Rev. W.F. Kendrick, of the Methodist Episcopal church, will
conduct the service.  Burial will take place in the Shanty Plains cemetery
beside his wife.
