The Ionia Standard, Friday, October 4, 1918
The funeral for Mrs. Martha J. Thornton, was held from her late home on Friday 
afternoon, on the State road.  Rev. E. E. Branch officiated.  The singing was 
by Mrs. Eugene Smith and Mrs. R. A. Colwell.  The pall bearers were Elmer 
Holiday, Clark Holiday, Edw. Hamilton, Arthur Clifford, Geo. Ostrander, and 
Herbert Mullin.  It was very largely attended and the offerings of flowers 
were both bountiful and beautiful.  Interment was in Shanty Plains cemetery.
