Ruth Thorp, aged 91, of Lake Odessa, was called Home early Wednesday afternoon, 
Nov. 19, 2008.

Ruth was born in Ionia County on Jan. 21, 1917 to Allyn and Florence (Fox) 
Goodemoot. She had been the Salutatorian of her graduating class at Lake Odessa 
High School. Ruth was united in marriage to Kenneth Thorp in 1936. They had 
celebrated 60 years of marriage prior to his death in 1996. Ruth was proud to 
have run the family farm with her husband. She loved her chickens on the farm, 
and enjoyed baking and cooking.

Ruth is survived by her daughter, Dianne (Tom) Barker; son, Richard (Tammy) 
Thorp; 6 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and sister and brothers, Ruby 
Williams, Mike (Virginia) Goodemoot and Richard (Marian) Goodemoot. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth Thorp; daughter, 
Courtney Courts and brother, Pat Goodemoot.

There will be a time of visitation with the family from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, 
Nov. 21, 2008 at the Koops Funeral Chapel in Lake Odessa. The memorial service 
will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22 at the Ionia County Church of 
Christ (7813 N. Jordan Lake Road, Lake Odessa). Inurnment will be at Lakeside 
Cemetery. The family has suggested that memorial contributions may be made to 
the American Cancer Society, or the Ionia County Church of Christ
