Thorpe, 54, formerly of Orleans, died Saturday evening in Metropolitan Hospital, Grand Rapids, after a long illness. Born Nov. 22, 1930 in Ionia, he was the son of Charles and Gladys Thorpe. He attended Belding schools and was a veteran of U.S. Army service during the Korean War. He was a self-employed concrete finisher. Surviving are a son, Kevin Thorpe, and a daughter, Heather Thorpe, both of Independence, Kan.; three brothers, Charles of Grand Rapids, William of Zeeland, and Gerald of Vincennes, Ind.; four sisters, Patricia McNeil of Lake Odessa; Connie Rasmussen of Greenville; Sandra Webb of Holland and Mary Lou Groom of Belding. Three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 pm from Hull Memorial Chapel, Muir with the Rev. Paul Carmichael of Lyons First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Green's corners Cemetery.
