GILES THORPE DIED AT BLODGETT HOSPITAL Resident of Sebewa Fifty Years. Mother of Six Sons, Loyal Christian Wife and Mother. In the death of Mrs. Hariett Thorpe Sebewa loses another of its pioneers. Mrs. Thorpe was one of the loyal supporters of the Christian church located in her community, being a Christian from early youth. Her later life was saddened by the loss of her husband in 1917, and two sons, Jason in France in 1918, and her son William in 1919. Three years brought three deaths in her family. Her losses may have had something to do with her failing health. The funeral was held at the Christian church, Thursday, Rev. F.C. Wing of Jackson preaching and the singing was by George and Russell Goodemoot. Burial was at Lake Side. OBITUARY Harriet Mosher was born November 13th, 1853, in Genesee county, New York, where she lived until twelve years of age, when she with her parents moved to Jackson county Michigan and six years later she with her husband moved to the home in Sebewa, Ionia county, where she lived until her death July 2nd, 1923, at the age of 69 years, seven months and 19 days. She was married November 5th, 1871, to Giles Thorpe and to this union was born six sons, Freeman, Giles, George, William, Burt and Jason. On August 22nd, 1917 she was called to mourn the loss of her husband and one year later, on October 24,918 occurred the death of her youngest son, Jason, who was killed in action in the battle of the Argonne Forest in France. Following this great sorrow she was again bereaved in the death of her son, William, June 8th, 1919. She was converted at the age of 12 years and in later years joined the East Odessa Wesleyan church and a few years later she with her husband placed her membership with the Church of Christ near their home. She was faithful and loving wife and mother and beloved and respected as a friend and neighbor. She lived a consistent Christian life and possessed a firm and living faith which was a great comfort to her in the great sorrows she was called to endure in her declining years. Being in failing health and suffering, she was taken to Blodgett hospital in hopes of relief, where she died one week later. She leaves to mourn her loss four sons, their wives, sixteen grandchildren, three sisters and two brothers, besides a large circle of relatives and friends.
