Tibbitts, an Ionia county pioneer, died Sunday at Washington, D.C., where he had lived for many years. His death came suddenly from heart failure, it is presumed, although the details have not been received here. The news of his death was contained in a telegram received from Russell Tibbitts by Dwight Brooks. Mr. Tibbitts was born 63 years ago on the old Tibbitts farm south of Ionia, and was the son of Jonathan Tibbitts one of the county’s earliest pioneers. He went to Washington years ago entering the government employ until four or five years ago when he became connected with the Carnegie Hero commission. He suffered an attack of heart trouble a week ago Sunday at about the same hour and was taken home but recovered. He leaves two children, Mrs. Greta Dear, who resides at Ft. Slocum, N.Y., and Russell Tibbitts of Washington. Mr. Tibbitts visited Ionia about four years ago. He wrote for The Sentinel for a number of years after going to Washington. Mrs. Tibbitts is a sister of Dwight Brooks and Mrs. James Taylor of ..[unreadable]. Mr. and Mrs. Taylor, who are at Ashville, N.C., will go to Washington, but Mr. Brooks will be unable to go. Arthur Tibbitts, a brother of Lansing and Mrs. Anna Gleason, of Illinois, a sister, also survive. The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon. Lizize and Jennie Tibbitts, sisters of Mr. Tibbitts, are buried in Manila in the National cemetery there and are the only two women there buried. They went to the Philippines as teachers and died there.
