One poet says: “God’s finger touched him, and he went to sleep.” The first to whom the “Grim Messenger” was sent since our meeting October 26, 1897, was Jonathan Tibbitts, at Lansing, December 18, 1897. Mr. Tibbitts was born in Oneida county, J.Y., January 21, 1809; came to Ionia September 30, 1836, making him one of the earliest to choose this county for his home.
