Tingley, 85 of Ionia, died Nov. 13, 1995 at his home. He was born Jan. 27, 1910 in Detroit, the son of Sidney G. and Pearl (Harris) Tingley. He attended and graduated from the Ionia schools. He received an Electrical and Radio degree from Coyne Electrical School and an Archaic Writing diploma from Michigan State University. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in Papuan New Guinea as a Sergeant of Company H 126th Infantry. He earned a Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, American Defense Service Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Battle Stars, four Overseas Service Bars and one Service Stripe. He retired from the Chrysler plant in Lyons. He was the caretaker and manager of Evergreen Mobile Home Park. He is survived by one brother, Gerald Tingley of Saranac; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Loren S. and Sidney G.; and sister Elizabeth of Ionia. At his request, there were no services and his burial will be in Balcom Cemetery.
