Mrs. Grace Tischer was almost instantly killed two miles west of Lake Odessa on M-50 at about 6:15 o’clock Friday evening when her car crashed head-on into a county road scraper truck. She lived four miles west of here but was employed as a saleslady in the Olive Huntzinger Shop and was driving home from work when the tragedy occurred. Some little distance behind Mrs. Tischer, her daughter-in-law Mrs. Hillis Tischer was also driving toward home. She soon arrived at the scene of the collision, which was in front of the Vernon Klingman home, and she and Elwood Klingman brought the fatally-injured woman to the Lake Odessa hospital. Mrs. Tischer was dead when admitted to the hospital. Her body had been crushed and broken by the impact. Alfred Miller, 45, of Lake Odessa, driver of the truck, told Deputy Sheriff William E. Gardner and Chief Deputy Leslie H. Murphy, who investigated the accident, that he was driving his truck toward Lake Odessa and was scraping gravel on the north side of the road. He told the officers that a short time before, he had turned on all the truck lights, and when he saw the Tischer car coming toward him brought the truck to a complete stop. A short time later he said the car struck the truck head on. The impact pushed the automobile’s motor back into the car, threw the doors open and Mrs. Tischer fell out of the car. But little damage was done to the heavy road scraper. Coroner Harry Myers of Ionia picked the following coroner’s jury which viewed the body and the scene of the accident: H.D. Poff, F.W. Gates, C.J. Yager, Chester Yager, A.H. McCartney and Delow Trowbridge, and said there would be an inquest. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. L. W. Manning at the home, west of Lake Odessa, Monday morning, and interment was made in the Lakeside cemetery.
