March 14, 1913 MOTHER OF LARGE FAMILY PASSED AWAY SUDDENLY Mrs. Ezra Tischer Dies At Age 43, Leaving Family of 14 Children. The people of our community and neighboring vicinity were deeply grieved Wednesday morning March 5, to hear the news of the death of a dear wife and mother, Mrs. Ezra Tischer. The news was startling from the fact that she had enjoyed the best of health and her illness was of a short period. On Friday Feb. 28, she was taken with measles which seemed to have settled on her lungs, and so made it very difficult for her to breathe. As she did not improve Dr. Rigterink of Freeport was called Tuesday morning. Mrs. Tischer did not improve however, but gradually grew worse being unable to speak. At three o'clock Wednesday morning Dr. Snyder of Lake Odessa was called. He came as soon as possible but upon his arrival he suggested that they call Dr. Rigterink again. Dr. Rigterink was again called. All that medical skill and kind hands could do was done, but to no avail. She passed away at about 9 o'clock that forenoon. A short service was held at their home Thursday afternoon at three o'clock. The services were conducted by Rev. J. G. Winey and interment was in the lakeside cemetery. Mrs. Tischer's maiden name was Ida Knapp, daughter of Mr. Leonard Knapp of this locality. 15, 1869. She came to Michigan with her parents when one year old. At the time of her death she was 43 years, 10 mo, 18 days old. She was married to Ezra H. Tischer August 31, 1899. To this union fourteen children were born, all of whom are at home excepting Olive now Mrs. Chas. Lowrey of Berlin and Della who lives in Hastings, the youngest of the family being about 18 months old, which makes the case all the more sad. Mrs. Tischer also leaves an aged father, seven brothers and three sisters. Mrs. Tischer was a member of the Progressive Brethren church. She was highly esteemed by a host of friends who join in extending sympathy to the bereaved husband and family. Mr. John Knapp of Ft. Wayne, Ind., a brother of the deceased was here to attend the funeral.
