Mrs. Etta Tolles, who has been visiting Mrs. Mary Pearson and other friends in Lake Odessa, was found dead in bed Wednesday morning at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Rush. Mrs. Tolles had offered to stay for a while with Mrs. Rush as Mr. Rush is very ill and someone was needed that they might not be alone. Wednesday morning when Mrs. Tolles did not arise Mrs. Rush entered the bedroom and found that she was probably dead, she called Dr. Peabody and a neighbor. The doctor stated that she had been dead some little time. The deceased, we were informed, had been cautioned to be extremely careful as she was in danger of death from any over-exertion. Mrs. Tolles and husband, the late Howard Tolles, were early residents of Lake Odessa and were members of the Methodist church and particularly active in the IOOF and Rebekah lodges of this place. They were both congenial and full of life and received much pleasure in their friendships. Mr. Tolles was a dealer in furnaces and plumbing supplies. Mrs. Tolles leaves one daughter Mrs. Gladys Vereeke of Lansing where she has made her home since Mr. Tolles’ death, but has often returned to visit her friends here where she felt more at home. There are two grandchildren. She leaves besides her daughter and family, two sisters, Mrs. Nora Clemmance of Bedford and Mrs. Daisy Bergman of Cloverdale and two brothers, John Noris of Lacy and George Norris of Hastings. The funeral will be held at the Methodist church Friday afternoon at 2 p.m., and burial will be at Lakeside cemetery.
