Portland Observer – Wednesday, 4 May 1898
The death of Chas. F. Torrance is the fourth which has occurred among the 
Masonic fraternity of Portland within the past four months.  It is also the 
fourth of the members of the Royal Arcanum of Portland; and when the 
beneficiary certificate which he carried in that society shall have been paid 
it will make a total of $10,500 which have been paid out in Portland within 
the same time.
