Obituary of Rosa Helm Torrey

Lived a Number of Years in Lake Odessa.  Appendicitis Results in Death.

The funeral of Mrs. Rosa Torrey was held at Trufant, her home town, last 
Thursday, and was very largely attended.  Two automobiles were required to 
carry the flowers from her home in Grand Rapids.

Many expressions of sympathy were received from Grand Rapids, Lake Odessa and 
Portland.

Mr. Torrey was so highly esteemed that a benefit hop was given by the Odd 
Fellows at their hall here last Wednesday evening.  Mrs. Torrey’s case was a 
very special one as it was so prolonged and everything done for her recovery, 
even transfusion of blood was tried but all efforts failed.

Rosa M. Helm Torrey was born in Spencer Township, Kent County, Michigan and 
died at St. Mary’s hospital, Grand Rapids, Michigan, March 4th, 1925, age 
thirty-seven years, ten months and nineteen days.

She was confirmed in the Danish Lutheran church at the age of sixteen years.  
She joined the Portland Congregational church October 1923.  She was united in 
marriage to Edgar D. Torrey August 1st, 1923, to which union one son was born 
December 7th 1924.

She lived a good Christian life and was always ready to do her work for the 
church.

She was a member of the following lodges, Rebekah’s of Portland, and the 
Maccabees of Lake Odessa.

Her disposition was retiring and lovable to all with whom she came in contact.

She leaves to mourn their loss a devoted husband, a three months old baby boy 
Gilbert, a father, mother, two brothers, two sisters, numerous other relatives 
and a host of friends.
