July 7, 1984 CHAMBER A. TORREY JACKSON - Chalmer A. Torrey, 69, of 214 N. Bowen, Jackson, died July 6, at Foote Memorial Hospital, Jackson. He was a former Lake Odessa resident. He was an accountant for several business firms , for Spartan Automotive, and in recent years had operated his own tax and accounting firm. In 1983 he was the Class A. Horse Shoe Pitching champion of Michigan and that same year was also the Mid-States Class A Horse Shoe Pitching champion. A member of the Jackson Bowling Hall of Fame, he served as secretary of the Jackson Bowling Association for 19 years. Born in Barry County Oct. 10, 1914, he was the son of Glenn and Katie Brooks Torrey. He graduated from lake Odessa High School in 1932 and later from Jackson Business University. He was married to Ruth Mandeville in 1940 and they made their home in Jackson. Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Janette Reisender of Parma; two grandchildren; one sister, Marie Burgess of Portland; three brothers, Charles Torrey of Mecosta, Cecil of Lake Odessa, and Clare of Jackson. Funeral services will be Sunday at 3 pm from the Jackson Presbyterian Church. The family will be at Tatience Mount Montgomery funeral home, Jackson, form 2 to 4 pm. and 7 to 9 pm Saturday.
