The Ionia Weekly Standard, Friday, August 16, 1907

The funeral service for Mrs. Jas. F. Tower, at the family residence on Union 
street, Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. F. H. Blunt, rector of St. Johns 
Episcopal church, was largely attended by sorrowing and sympathizing friends.

Mrs. Tower was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Holmes.  She was married to 
James F. Tower Oct. 16, 1871.  Three sons were born to them, one dying in 
infancy, two surviving: Osmond H., in quartermaster general’s office, Lansing, 
and Dr. Elbert J., a dentist, in Cedar Springs.  She leaves also a brother, E. 
C. Holmes of Weidman, and a sister, Mrs. Chas. E. Mercer of Grand Rapids.

Mrs. Tower had the womanly qualities which command wide respect and esteem.  
Without being specially active in social life, she attached any friends who 
keenly feel the loss in her death.

The music at the service was by Mrs. Williston, Mrs. Brock and Mrs. Spencer.  
The bearers were: K. R. Smith, H. A. Cornell, G. S. Yates, L. P. Brock, O.H. 
Dean and F. C. Sibley.

Among those here in attendance were Mr. and Mrs. Osmond H. Tower and children, 
of Lansing; Dr. E. J. Tower, of Cedar Springs; Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Mercer 
and daughters Zelia and Nina of Grand Rapids; Mrs. J. F. Forsyth and son of 
Lansing; George H. Mercer of Battle Creek; E. C. Holmes, brother, of Weidman, 
and daughters Mrs. Henry Frost and child, of Grand Rapids, and Miss Birdie 
Holmes of Weidman; Mrs. Eliza Dona of Toledo, Ohio; Mrs. Mary E. Crinns and 
daughter Elizabeth of Fort Wayne, Ind.
