The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Friday, February 28, 1958


Dr. Elbert J. Tower, 78, a native and former resident of Ionia and for over 40 
years a Cedar Spring dentist, died in Butterworth hospital in Grand Rapids 
Thursday.  

Dr. Tower was a frequent Ionia visitor and owned buildings on Main street.  He 
retired from active dental practice a year ago.  Word of his death was received 
here by life-long friends, Mr. and Mrs. Montgomery Webster.

Dr. Tower was a charter member of the Cedar Springs Rotary and past treasurer 
of the club.  He had served as village treasurer and had been a member of the 
district school board.

Surviving are his wife, Lida; a son, John, superintendent of the Newhall school 
in Grand Rapids; a daughter, Mrs. Florence Nason of Belding and two 
grandchildren.

Funeral service is to be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Walsh-Bliss funeral home.  
Temporary entombment will be at Elmwood cemetery.  Burial will be in the family 
lot at Highland Park cemetery in Ionia in the spring.
