Mrs. Philura Tower died at the residence of her son, Joseph Tower, in this city Monday. She had just passed her 84th birthday but a couple of weeks ago and was at that time feeling very well. Mrs. Tower was born in North Chili, New York, June 20, 1813. She came when twelve years of age with her parents to Oakland Co., Michigan. While living in that township she married Mr. Joseph Tower, in 1833. Not many years afterward they moved to Grattan, and the family has resided in that vicinity ever since. Thirteen children, seven boys and six girls were born to the family, eleven of whom are now living and nine were present at their mother’s burial. Mr. Tower died in 1874. She was of a long lived family her father living to a ripe age of 97. Mrs. Tower was an energetic woman and very much loved by all her neighbors and friends. She was a kind mother to her children and grandchildren and was highly respected by them, who will miss her very much. For the past eight years she has made her home with her son here but visited around among her children as she desired. Her funeral was held in the Congregational church Wednesday afternoon where many of her old friends paid their last respect. Rev. B.V. Child preached an excellent sermon.
