In the death of Mrs. B.F. Tower, who died Saturday, April 2nd, the whole
community has lost a dearly beloved and most valuable friend.  It would be no
extravagance to say none knew her but to love her.  During the last few years of
her life she knew that sooner or later she must fall a victim to an incurable
disease.  She would go about performing her kind offices of sympathy and love. 
No one into whose presence she came ever felt that she brought with her an
atmosphere of gloom.  She knew at most that she had but a few years to live and
yet she was determined that no gnawing grief of her own should cast a shadow
over the household or make sad the hearts of those she loved.  Mrs. Tower, nee
Eva Peterson, was the daughter of Edwin and Julia Peterson and was born in
Otisco, Ionia county, July 3, 1850.  She was married to Benjamin F. Tower, June
1st, 1874, and at the time of her death was nearly 48 years old.  There were
four children born to Mr. and Mrs. Tower, all of whom are living: Gordon E.,
Ray, Glenn and Nellie.  Mrs. Tower left surviving her, one brother, Orson
Peterson of this township.  The funeral service was conducted at the home of the
deceased by Rev. D.E. Hillis of Greenville and the Relief Corps of Belding, of
which she was a worthy member, Tuesday afternoon, April 5th, and the interment
was in the cemetery at Otisco.  The service was very impressive and the silent
tear drop which moistened the eyes of nearly all of the large number in
attendance freely attested the love and respect they bore the deceased.
