Jim was born on May 18, 1928 in Gratiot County, the son of Sidney and Maggie Sanders Towersey. He graduated from Ionia High School with the class of 1945 and later proudly served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. In earlier years he worked at General Tier, Chrysler Corporation, and later he co- owned M-44 Stripping Woodshop in Orleans. He enjoyed woodworking and building birdhouses. Jim was a member of the VFW Sheridan Post 5065. On April 25, 1953 he married Helen Irene Crague in Indianapolis, Ind. Jim is loved and survived by his wife, Helen and their children; Craig and Lynn Towersey of Stanton, Coni Towersey of N. Muskegon, Chuck and Theresa Towersey of Rockford and Cindy Ballew of N. Muskegon; his grandchildren: Brad, Daniel, Tyler, Brittany and Brianna; great grandchild, Amanda; and two sisters, Gert Heppe of Orleans and Shelby Towersey of Ionia. Jim was preceded by his parents, his brothers; Russell, John, Jerry, Sidney and Fred, and sisters Dorothy and Geneva. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Shiloh Community Church, Orleans with Pastor Ken Harger officiating. Committal prayers with full military honors will follow at Orleans Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding and one hour before the service on Thursday at Shiloh Community Church. Memorial contributions may be given to Shiloh Community Church or the wishes of the family.
