The son of Chauncey DePeu and Marion Helene Rowley Town, he was born on the family farm on March 20, 1924. On March 16, 1947, in Greenville, he married Betty Jean Maxfield. For his entire life Harold farmed the land that has been worked and owned by his family for more than 150 years. A devoted husband, father and grandpa, he found his greatest joy in his family, his church and in working. He was a member of the Greenville Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He is survived by his wife of almost 58 years, Betty Jean Town; their two sons, Jon Michael and Katie Town of Holland, Michael Jon and Claire Town of Ionia; twin brother, Howard Orval Town of Greenville; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Billiejo Burmeister, Jeremy M.A. Town, Heather Hoy, Jeana Hansen, Christopher Town, Brooke Bailey, Duane Sherman, Whitney Town; 15 great-grandchildren, Kristan, Justin, Megan, Sam, Pete, Cory, Nathan, Alysa, Austin, Grant, Justin, Madison, Bree, A.J., Elyse; several nieces and nephews; and many friends. Funeral services are 1 p.m. today at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Greenville, with Bishop David Tichelaar presiding. Burial will take place privately in Rest Haven Memory Gardens, Belding. Visitation is 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. today at the church west of Greenville on Highway M-57. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are suggested.
