Helen M. Towne, 87, of Belding, passed away Monday afternoon, January 19, 2004 
at Laurels of Kent Nursing Home in Lowell.  She was born July 7, 1916 in 
Deckerville the daughter of George and Scenith Beatty Ridley.

Helen was a member of the First Congregational Church of Belding, past member 
of the Belding Business and Professional Women’s Organization and a volunteer 
for the American Red Cross for over 49 years.  Helen was also a member of the 
Doric Chapter 75 OES, and past guardian for Jobs Daughters Bethel 62.  She and 
her late husband L.D. Towne founded the Clothing Care Center of Belding.

She was married in 1979 to L.D. Towne and he preceded her in death in 1990.  
She was also preceded by her parents, her brothers, Horatio, Charles, George, 
John, Clarence, and Roy; two children, Roma Jean in infancy and Dale (Bryant) 
Collins in 1962.

Helen is survived by her son, Al Bryant of Grand Rapids; her grandchildren, 
Tammy, Tim, Nick, Laurie, Darren, Mark, Patrick, Michael; numerous great 
grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and two special 
friends, Liane Schletter and Anya Larson.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Congregational Church 
Belding with Rev. Dr. Dick Woodward officiating.  Visitation will be 7 to 9 
p.m. Friday at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home Belding.  Interment will be at 
Hough Cemetery in Almont in the spring.  Memorial contributions may be given 
to the First Congregational Church.
