Towne, who for many years was a resident of Orleans, died Saturday at the home of his son, D. C. Towne, 710 West Washington street. Mr. and Mrs. Towne had resided at Blanchard since 1909. Mr. Towne had been in poor health for two years. Three weeks ago a son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Towne of Detroit, brought Mr. and Mrs. Towne from Blanchard to the home of his sister, Mrs. Thomas Hill, at Orleans for a visit, and were planning to take them to Detroit. After a week they came to the home of their son, and Mr. Towne failed rapidly until his death Saturday. He was born March 16, 1857 at Lockport, New York, and came to Orleans with his parents when six years of age. Besides his widow he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. H. D. Culp, of Blanchard; three sons, E. Earl Towne of Lansing, D. C. Towne of Ionia, and H. E. Towne of Detroit, and a sister, Mrs. Thomas Hill, of Orleans. The funeral will be held at the Methodist Episcopal church at Orleans Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock our time. Burial will take place in the family lot in the Orleans cemetery. Subsequent Publication: Tuesday, February 9, 1926 The funeral service for Elmer Towne was held Monday afternoon at 1:30 from the home of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hill, near Orleans, and from the Methodist Episcopal church at Orleans at 2 o’clock. The service, which was conducted by Rev. George Johnston, of Muir, was one of the largest funerals held there in a number of years. The church auditorium and class rooms at the side were filled to their capacity. The music was furnished by Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Barden. The bearers were John Lambertson, Warren Crane, Charles Graff, Frank Hill, John Meade, and Frank Hale. Burial took place in the family lot at the Orleans cemetery. Those from away to attend the funeral were Mrs. V. Carroll, of Chicago; H. J. St. Clair, of Standish; Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Dodson, of Grand Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Walker, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Minard, Mr. and Mrs. George Comstock and family, Mr. and Mrs. Sam McIntyre, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Moody, Mr. and Mrs. E. Courser, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Denslow, Mr. and Mrs. Asa Docker, Mr. and Mrs. Orvie Dorgitz, Mr. and Mrs. Jay Cook, Mr. and Mrs. George Cook Mr. and Mrs. William Moody, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Johnston, and Mr. and Mrs. Claude Johnson, all of Blanchard.
