Ionia Sentinel-Standard - 2010

Mary Christine Towner, 88, of Portland, passed away on Tuesday, March 9, 2010. 
She was born on Sept. 17, 1921, in Woodland, the daughter of Arlo and Mildred 
(Leak) Aves.

Mrs. Towner went to Johnson Country School and graduated from Lake Odessa High 
School in 1939. She attended the First Baptist Church of Sebewa and was a 
member of the Danby Cemetery Society. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, traveling, 
camping and was a member of the Great Lakes Campers of Michigan.

She married Kenneth Towner on Oct. 28, 1944, and he survives her. Also 
surviving are two sisters, Elaine Austin and Norma Bever; special neighbors, 
Chuck and Helen Smith and family; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Marjorie (Ades) Swoler.

The Funeral Service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 12, 2010, at the 
Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Homes, Portland with Pastor Greg Matson, presiding. 
Interment will take place at Danby Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 
the funeral home on Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
