Ionia County News, 31 Oct 1946

Mrs. Abbie Lillian Townsend, 86, passed away at her home, Sunday morning.  She 
has been critically ill for the past month.  Following an operation for sinus 
infection a cancer developed, which caused her death.

Abbie L. Styles was born Dec. 31, 1859 in Wisconsin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. 
George Styles and came to Michigan at the age of 9.  One of five children, her 
brothers George Jr., and Jesse Styles preceded her in death.  Her sisters, Ida 
Stites and Hattie Benjamin, live near Pewamo.

Besides her husband, Frank W. Townsend, she leaves a daughter, Mrs. Hector Gee 
of Muir, and two sons, Frank Jr., and Claude, at home, six grandchildren and 
two great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and friends.

Funeral service was held Wednesday from the Muir Presbyterian church.  Burial 
was in the Lyons cemetery.  Pall bearers were nephews.  Rev. Paul Stewart of 
Ionia officiated and music by Mrs. George Steadman and Plyn Woodworth.
