Townsend, 72, of 20 Lovell Place, died Wednesday evening at 8 o’clock at her home. She had been ill for the last six years. She was born in Jackson county, October 4, 1881, the daughter of Sylvanus and Emma Hemens. the family lived in South Lyons, Oakland county, until 1905 when they moved to Ionia and purchased Peck Brothers book store. February 1, 1911, she was married to J. Fred Townsend and lived on a farm until 1944 when they moved to their present home. She was a member of the First Presbyterian church for nearly 50 years and a member of the Social Hour club of South Ionia. Surviving besides her husband is one brother, Rollin Hemens, of Chicago.
