Portland Observer, 3 Feb 1904; Ionia Daily Standard, 25 Jan 1904

Steward Townsend, father of Henry Townsend of this village and Andrew of 
Orange, died at his home in Ionia township last week, aged 75 years.  He was 
one of the pioneers of the county, having come here from Monroe county, N. Y., 
where he was born, with his parents, in 1846.

Stewart Townsend of South Ionia township, and well known as a pioneer resident 
of the county, died on Sunday evening at 9 o’clock.  He was aged 75 years, 
past, and leaves a widow and six children.  Funeral from the late home on 
Tuesday at 12:30; interment in Tuttle cemetery.
