Mr. Townsend was at one time owner of most of the land on which the village of Lake Odessa now stands, but before the railroad went through he sold the farm to H.R. Wagar who forseen the possibilities of a young city being erected here. From Lake Odessa Mr. Townsend moved to Campbell township, and later to the village of Clarksville; then after his wife had passed away, and his son, Fred, had gone into business at Battle Creek, he moved to that city where he lived until death came to claim its own. Four weeks ago he suffered a stroke of apoplexy, which left his right side completely paralyzed, and from that time there was a rapid decline, he passing into a state of unconsciousness four days preceding his death. Always charitable, a neighbor to his neighbors, with ever an open door for strangers, and always accommodating and agreeable, were characteristics of his life. His remains were taken to Clarksville today, and laid to rest beside those of his wife.
