The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Saturday, December 31, 1921

Calista White, daughter of Alonzo and Ruth White was born in Penn county, 
March 18, 1845.  She came to Ionia county at the age of eleven years.  She has 
lived in Ionia township a few years, in Berlin township a number of years and 
has lived in Orange township over forty years.  

At the age of eighteen she was united in marriage to George Townsend, with 
whom she lived until his death in 1909.  One child was born to this union, a 
girl, who has purchased her to the better land.

Mrs. Townsend joined the LeValley M. E. church a number of years ago.  Her 
cheerful disposition and her life spent in sacrificing for others, endured her 
to all that knew her and though she leaves no immediate family, she leaves 
many relatives and near friends to mourn her departure.
