He passed away Sept. 3, 1910. He was one of a family of fifteen children of Charles and Laura Townsend. He came to Michigan with his father when only four years of age. They first went to the home of a sister in Oakland county, where they remained about six months, when the sister and family moved to Orange, Ionia county, which was the home of the deceased to the end of his life. At the age of 16, Mr. Townsend lost his health, and was ever after more or less an invalid. He was married in 1861 to Calista G. White, daughter of Alonzo and Ruth White. One child was born to this union, Melvina, who passed away 17 years ago. He is survived by the wife, two grandsons, one granddaughter, and two great-grandsons; also by four sisters.
