April 29, 1942 Funeral services for Mrs. Martha B. Townsend, 79, of Durand will be attended Thursday morning at 11 a.m. at the home of her son, Charles, 105 Oakland street, Durand where her death occurred Monday. Services will also be held Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at the LeValley Methodist church, Orange township, and burial will be at Tuttle cemetery. Rev. Ward Klopp of Durand will officiate. She had been seriously for the past seven weeks. Mrs. Townsend, who has made her home with her son and at Durand for the past 21 years, was the widow of Lafayette Townsend, to whom she was married October 30m 1878, and was a resident of the LeValley neighborhood for 52 years. The Townsend farm was just west of the LeValley church. Mrs. Townsend was the daughter of Nathan and Mary Carter, and was born in Dark county, Ohio, October 1, 1862. She was six years of age when the family came to Michigan. She was a member of the Congregational church in Durand and of the Gleaners. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Edward Elvert, of North Plains: a son, Charles of Durand: a sister, Mrs. Aggie Coe of Sebewa: a brother,, Frank Carter of Grand Rapids, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
