Ionia Daily Sentinel-Standard - Mon. Oct. 5, 1931

The last rites for Sherman Townsend, who died Wednesday evening, were conducted 
by Rev. R. E. Karban and Dr. W. K. Spencer at the home, 20 Lovell Place, 
Saturday afternoon, with the Masonic Blue Lodge acting as escort and 
administering the final rites at the Balcom cemetery, where the interment took 
place.

Gathered with the friends and relatives were members of Queen Esther chapter, 
O.E.S., Blue lodge, No. 36, F. and A. M., Ionia chapter, R. A. M., Ionia 
council, R. S. M. and members of the Presbyterian church, Mr. and Mrs. Neil 
Townsend and children, of Detroit, and Mr. ad Mrs. Arthur McNeill and children 
of Flint, were here to attend.

Mr. R. R. Whitten, Mrs. S. A. Rochester and Mrs. J. R. Bricker were in charge 
of the many floral offerings which marked the respect of the community for this 
pioneer. The bearers were Glenn D. Mathews. S. A. Rochester, J. R. Bricker, Dr. 
R. R. Whitten, Dr. I. J. Culp, and Fred Owens.
