Townsend Died Friday Following Week's Illness Of Pneumonia Andrew C. Townsend, 83 years of age, died at his home in Orange township Friday afternoon, following a week's illness of pneumonia. Funeral services were held at the LeValley church Monday afternoon, in charge of Rev. Sutcliff, of Plainwell, assisted by Rev. J. M. Jensen. Burial was made in the Tuttle cemetery. Mr. Townsend was born December 21, 1851, the son of Mr and Mrs Steward Townsend, early settlers of Ionia township. After his marriage he purchased a farm in Orange township, where he resided until the time of his death. His wife, Mrs. Anna Townsend, died 12 years ago. He was a brother of Henry Townsend, of Portland, and a member of one of Ionia County's best know families. Other surviving near relatives are three daughters, Mrs. Grace L. Benedict, of Muir; Mrs.Ray Reeder, of Fenwick; Mrs. Clayton Sible, of Flint; two sons, Clifford, of Ionia and Lynn of Orange; 23 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; three other brothers, Emery and Sid of Ionia and Nelson of Detroit, and one sister, Mrs. Ella Holmes of Ionia. Among Portland relatives to attend the funeral were Henry Townsend, Mr and Mrs Jack Allen, Mr and Mrs Frank Adagate and Mr and Mrs Ross Townsend.
