LAKE ODESSA- Mrs. Beatrice M. Townsend, 75, of Route 1, died Monday morning at 
Lansing's Sparrow Hospital, where she had been a patient for the past nine days.

She was born Jan. 7, 1905, in Muscatine, Iowa, the daughter of George and Bertha 
(Mackmmore) Simons.

She graduated from West Liberty (Mo.) High School in 1921 and then moved to 
Detroit, where she graduated from Grace Hospital as a nurse in 1922.

Mrs. Townsend owned and operated the Lake Odessa Hospital for three years and 
was employed at the Ionia County Memorial and Hastings Pennock hospitals for 
several years.

She married William Townsend Dec. 17, 1937. The lived most of their life in the 
Clarksville -Lake Odessa area, and the past 15 winters in New Mexico.

She was a member of the Lakewood United Methodist Church and the Michigan Nurses 
Association.

She is survived by her husband, William; three sons, Warren of Greenville, 
Lawrence of Clarksville and Stanley of Midland, Tex.' one sister, Mrs. Arlie 
(Agnes) Shoemaker of Davisburg, Mich.; and five grandchildren.

Services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. from the Pickens-Koops Funeral 
Chapel in lake Odessa, with the Rev. James Hulett officiating.

Burial will be in Clarksville Cemetery.
