Townsend, 67, died Friday morning at his home one and one-half miles west of Pewamo following a months illness and an operation performed some time ago in Blodgett hospital. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the home. The burial will be in Lyons cemetery. Mr. Townsend was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Townsend, natives of New York and pioneers of Lyons township. He was born near the Spaulding schoolhouse near Pewamo and had always lived in that vicinity. He had lived on the place where he died for 23 years. Surviving are the widow, formerly Mrs. Sarah Crone, three sons, Ernest of Oregon, Howard of Ionia, and Fay of Lyons; two daughters, Mrs. Joseph Russell of Pennsylvania and Mrs. Harold Walters of Benton Harbor; two sisters, Mrs. Homer Gee of Lyons and Mrs. E. B. Wood of Portland; three brothers, Fred of Lyons, Frank of Muir, and Emmett of Palo.
