              Franklin O.Townsend

LAKE ODESSA - Franklin O.Townsend, age 77, of Lake Odessa, passed away 
Wednesday, October 29, 1997 at Pennock Hospital in Hasting's.

Mr.Townsend was born on March 18, 1920 in Woodland, the son of Otto and Kathryn 
(Oaks)Townsend.

Mr.Townsend graduated from Woodland High School in 1938 and was married to Wilma 
King on June 22, 1941 in Lake Odessa.

He served in the United States Army during World War II (1943-1947).

Mr.Townsend owned and operated the Nifty restaurant in Ionia and the Cottage Inn 
in Lake Odessa before working for the Bliss Machinery in Hasting's and the 
Oliver Machinery in Grand Rapids from which he retired in 1985.

He was a member of the Hope Church of the Brethren of Freeport, he served on the 
Lakewood School Board for 16 years and the Grand Rapids and Barry County Habitat 
for Humanity Board.

Mr.Townsend was preceded in death by a daughter,Tamara in 1943.

Mr.Townsend is survived by his wife,Wilma; four daughters,Pamela(Terry) Mix of 
Woodland, Peggy (Ronald) France of Lake Odessa, Barbara (Darrel) Bosworth of 
Mulliken, Shelly (Jeffrey)Steward of Woodland; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-
grandchildren; two brothers, Garnet (Betty) Townsend of Kalamazoo, Ralph 
(Mildred) Townsend of Woodland; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday, November 1, 1997 at the Hope Church of the 
Brethren of Freeport, Reverend Doug Reichenbach officiated.

Interment took place in Woodland Memorial Park.

Arrangements were made by Koops Funeral Chapel, Lake Odessa.
