Sherman M. Townsend died his home at 20 Lovell Place at 9:30 Wednesday night, at the age of 85 years. Born in Genesee county, Mr. Townsend came to Ionia county with his parents at the age of ten and resided upon a farm in Ionia township until 1920 when he moved to the city of Ionia. He was a life member of Lodge No. 36, F. and A.M., a member of Queen Esther chapter, O.E.S. and of the B.P.O.E. lodge. Mr. Townsend was married in 1877 to Miss Ellen J. McNeal, who survives him together with two sons, J. Fred, of Ionia, Neal S., of Detroit; a brother John, of Gratton, South Dakota, two grandchildren and a niece. He was a lifelong and active member of the Presbyterian church. Funeral services will be held from the home at 2 p.m. Saturday, with ceremonies conducted by the local Masonic lodge. Rev. R. E. Karban and Dr. Spencer will officiate. Interment will be in Balcom cemetery.
