The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Thursday, February 25, 1960


Funeral service was held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Wessels funeral home, 
23690 Woodward avenue in Detroit, for Neil S. Townsend, 79, of Ferndale.  Mr. 
Townsend died at his home Monday night following a heart attack.

He was born on a farm south of Ionia August 27, 1880, and attended Ionia 
schools.  After he graduated from Ionia high school in 1902, he attended 
University of Michigan where he graduated with a degree in engineering.

He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Townsend of Ionia.  In 1910 he was 
married in Kansas to Maude B. Brown.  Later he went to Detroit and for 35 
years was employed at Cadillac Motor Company until he retired in 1948.  

Mr. Townsend is survived by his wife, Maude; two sons, John S. Townsend of 
Birmingham and Roger N. Townsend of Linwood, Calif.; seven grandchildren and 
one brother, J. Fred Townsend of Ionia.

Burial was at Woodlawn cemetery in Detroit.
