Martha B. Townsend, 88, of Lyons, passed away at Ionia County Memorial Hospital 
Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999.  She was born in Trufant on March 28, 1911, the 
daughter of Percy and Ida (Helsel) Lockwood.  She was a graduate of Lyons High 
School in 1929.

She married Dale Townsend at the Ionia Free Fair in 1931 and he passed away in 
1990.  They came to Lyons from Pontiac in 1947.

She belonged to the Golden Years Sr. Citizen of Lyons-Muir, was a 4-H leader 
for over 20 years and the Lyons Methodist Church for 51 years.

She is survived by one daughter, Joy (Larry) Miller of Lyons; one sister, Mrs. 
Louie Avery of Segola; one granddaughter, Autumn (Scott) Ferris of Lyons; one 
grandson, Dale (Nancy) Miller of Ionia; and three grandchildren, Christopher, 
Jacob and Bethany Miller.  She was preceded in death by her husband and one 
sister.

Visitation will be Sunday from 2 until 4 and 7 until 9 p.m. at the Hull 
Memorial Chapel of Muir.  The funeral service will be on Monday at 2 p.m. at 
the Temple Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Houseman officiating.  Burial in Lyons 
Cemetery.
