Nathan A. Tracy Is Buried Today

Former Resident, Who Died in Grand Ledge, Had Honorable War Record.

Messrs. H. C. Glines, E. C. Fox, Wm. G. Miner and John W. Klotz, comrades of 
deceased in the 9th Michigan infantry, Mr. and Mrs. George Kelley and son, 
Alvin, Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Kelley and son, Merle, Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Smith and 
Mrs. M. E. Doremus went to Grand Ledge today to attend the funeral of Nathan A. 
Tracy, a former resident of Portland, who died at his home in Grand Ledge 
Monday following an illness of two years.

Mr. Tracy was born in Romulus, N. Y., July 28, 1838, being in his 77th years at 
the time of his death.  He came to Portland when a young man and with the 
exception of three years spent in the Union army resided here continuously 
until about 35 years ago, when he moved to Grand Ledge.

Mr. Tracy enlisted in Co. H, Ninth regiment of Michigan Infantry, March 4, 
1862, and was honorably discharged at Chattanooga, Tenn., March 25th, 1864, 
only to enlist again in Co. H. Ninth Michigan infantry of Veteran Volunteers, 
from which he was honorably discharged in September, 1865, at Nashville, Tenn.  
He had been an active member of the G.A.R. since the war.

Within a month after his release from the service Mr. Tracy married Miss 
Clarisy Jane Mulford, a half sister of George and Charles Kelley, of Portland, 
the ceremony having been performed here October 8, 1865.  Besides the widow and 
an adopted son, Charles Tracy, of Grand Ledge, deceased is survived by two 
brothers and two sisters, William and George Tracy and Mrs. Catherine Damon, of 
Gratiot county, and Mrs. Sarah Howe, of Saginaw.

Mr. Tracy was a member of the Grand Ledge lodge of Odd Fellows, and the funeral 
sermon was delivered this afternoon by Rev. C. E. Pollock, of Grand Ledge, a 
member of the same fraternity.
