Alan R. Tran, 74, of 615 Root Street, Belding, died Sunday at Metropolitan 
Hospital, in Grand Rapids.  He was born August 10, 1919, in Portland, the son 
of Miles and Neva Covert Tran.  

He worked as a press operator at Gibson’s for 36 years, retiring in 1981.  He 
was graduated from Portland High School in 1937.  He was a member of St. 
Joseph’s Catholic Church in Belding.  He married the former Lorena Rittersdorf 
on December 7, 1943, in Miriam.  She survives.

He is also survived by his daughter Kathy Peters of Greenville; four sons, 
Thomas and Pat of Greenville, Alan of Plainwell, and James of Pewamo; 18 
grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren; two sisters, Thelma Russman of 
Portland and Ardith Rittersorf of Greenville; one brother, Raymond of Smyrna; 
and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, with the Rev. George 
Darling officiating.  Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.  The family will 
be at the Johnson Funeral Home of Belding from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, with a 
vigil service at 8 p.m.  A memorial has been established for the St. Joseph’s 
Church Building Fund, in care of the funeral home.
