Trappen, 77, of Portland and Tucson, Arizona, died Oct. 21, in Tucson. He was born Jan. 31, 1909 in Petoskey, to William and Sarah Marie Lindgren Trappen. He was married in July 1940 to Audrey Goff of Portland. He was a member of the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Portland and Sacred Heart Church in Tucson. He was a business owner, a past mayor of Portland, retiree from the Michigan State Police Fingerprint Division East Lansing and was a member of the Michigan-Ontario Police and Sheriff Department. He was a veteran of WWII, a member of the VFW and the American Legion. He was a fundraiser for the United Way and a member of the Ionia County Republican Committee. He was an active member and past officer of Toastmasters International. In 1985, he was awarded the Distinguished Toastmaster Award. He was an amateur tennis player and instructor. He is survived by his wife, Audrey of Portland and Tucson; two sons, Peter of West Palm Beach, Fla. and James of Portland; two daughters, Marcia of Lansing and Laurie Patrick of Portland; one brother, Lorenzo of Grand Rapids; two granddaughters, Sarah Marie and Pammela Ann Patrick of Portland. He was preceded in death by two sons, John and Russell. Funeral services will be held Nov. 1 at 1 p.m. at the Neller Funeral Home in Portland.
