He was born in Lansing on March 31, 1938, the son of Arley and Velma (Merritt) Travis. He attended Ionia Public Schools and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was employed by the State of Michigan Highway Department with more than 20 years of service. He was a member of the Saranac American Legion Post, and the Moose Lodge of Ionia. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita Pierce Travis in 1964; his father, Arley Travis in 1977; a sister, Sandra Fahey in 1983, two brothers, Gerrit Travis in 1955 and Merritt Travis in 1981. Survivors include four daughters, Teresa Benson of Lansing, Lisa Travis of Cedar Springs, Angela Travis of Greenville and Aimee Travis of Ionia; two granddaughters; his mother, Velma Travis of Ionia; three sisters, Marie Spaulding of Lakeview, Arlene Brown of Cross Timbers, Mo., and Vicki Dailey of Hubbardston; two brothers, Carl Travis of Quincy and Robert Travis of Belding and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1 pm at the Montgomery-Roetman Funeral Home in Ionia, with the Rev. Kenneth Harger of Shiloh Community Church officiating. Burial will be in Saranac Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home Monday, from 2-4 pm and 7-8:30 pm.
