Trefry died January 5th, 1919, at the home of his daughter, Abbie B. Webster, south of this village, at the ripe old age of 93 years and six months. Deceased was born Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. He came to Michigan with his wife and three children in 1851 and settled on a farm in Ingham county, 18 miles from Jackson. In 1865 he came with his family to Lyons, Ionia county, and purchased the farm adjoining the Lyons cemetery. Mr. Trefry erected the building known as the Barnard building in this village; here he carried on a general store in company with a brother for several years. Later he and his son, Benjamin, were in partnership. For 25 years preceding his death, Mr. Trefry conducted a general store here, only retiring two years ago on account of advanced age. Seven children are left to mourn their loss, as follows: Mrs. James Chubb, Lyons; Dexter Trefry and Hattie Hanchett, both of Long Beach, Cal.; Charles of Eugene, Oregon; Abbie Webber, Lyons; Ella Vance, Denver, Colo; Benjamin S., Warren, Ohio. Funeral services were held from the Webber home Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Geo. A. Brown of the Lyons M.E. church. Interment in the Lyons cemetery.
