Ziguards (Ziggy) Troms, 69, of Ionia, passed away November 15, 2003 at his 
home.  He was born May 25, 1934 in Aloja, Latvia the son of Robert and Gaida 
(Eglitis) Troms.  He graduated in 1964 from MSU where he received his teaching 
degree.  He married Joyce Davis June 30, 1967 in Lansing.  He was a teacher at 
Michigan Reformatory until retiring in 1988 after twenty five years.  He was a 
substitute teacher for Ionia Public Schools for several years after retiring.

Ziggy was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Ionia, Ionia American 
Legion, Ionia Moose, Western Michigan Rifle & Pistol Club, State Employees 
Retirement Association, Teachers Association and Fraternitas Livonica.

He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Troms of Ionia; mother, Gaida Troms 
of East Lansing; children, Kaelene C. (John) Rairigh of South Carolina, Brad 
Lee Davis of Ionia, Eriks (Diane) Troms of Ionia, Robert (Cindy) Troms of 
Saranac; stepdaughter Audrey (Gabe) Helou of Royal Oak; brother, Valdis (Jo 
Anna) Troms of East Lansing and nine grandchildren.  He was preceded in death 
by his father, one son, Miervaldis and one sister, Ilma Flannery.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday at St. John’s Lutheran Church 
with Rev. Sange officiating.  Visitation is Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 
Lake Funeral Home in Ionia.  Anyone wishing may make a memorial contribution 
to Ionia Area Hospice of Lakewood Community Ambulance.
